209 refugees have been rescued in the last 24 hours.

The other approx 83,000 were men?
I think an explanation may be that places in safer boats are preferred for women and children, and younger men are taking risks that others avoid.
Oh wait….800,000 have arrived, of which 100,000 were rescued and 3,500 drowned?
I understand, ‘rescued’ in terms of ‘picked up from the sea and boatwrecks’ while the others arrived safe.
