A Turkish citizen arrived to the island of Samos per jet ski. He was caught by men of the Greek Coast Guard who realized that the documents he had with him were forged.
According to Proto Thema, the man – estimated to be approximately 40 years old – is considered to be either a member of the Turkish Armed Forces who participated in the coup attempt of July 15th or a civil servant who had helped the coup supporters.
The man arrived at Pythagorion on the island of Samos, just a few nautical miles opposite from the Turkish coast south of Kusadasi.
He had a passport showing that he was a Bulgarian citizen. However, the coast guard control and check showed that the document was forged. Greek intelligence service is dealing with the case.
The case causes a new headache for the Greek authorities as if proven to be a coup fugitive, it will be the ninth Turkish member of the Armed Forces who sought refugee in Greece.
One day after the July coup, 8 members of the Turkish Air Force fled to Greece with a Black Hawk helicopter from Istanbul. they applied for asylum fearing of their lives if extradited to Turkey.
UPDATE:
According to state broadcaster ERT TV, sources from the Prime Ministry dismissed the news saying “there is not such an incident on a Greek island or on Greek soil” describing the news as “dangerous games against the country”.
