Greek State TV NET reported that Greek Air Traffic Controllers decided to go on a 24-hour strike on Saturday, July 31!
Meanwhile more than 100 flights, planned to depart from Athens Airport, had a delay from 5 minutes to 6 hours due to ‘work-to-rule’ protest of air traffic controllers. Some flights were even cancelled.
Foreign tourists have been complaining to Greek TV channels about not having any information whatsoever about any ongoing strike or about possible departure. At the moment flights to Larnaka, Tel Aviv and Toronto seem to be affected.
Work-to-rule (also called ‘white strike’ by Greek media) means that the air traffic controllers apply strict number of flights per hour according to IATA safety regulations.
Greek air traffic controllers demand new staff and payment of overtime work. Today they had talks with Transportation Ministry officials but without fruitful results.
