Kerate citizens are complaining about the landfill and the permanent presence of police forces. The police is complaining about the working conditions.
The government refuses the dialogue with the citizens and leaves the ‘solution’ of the problem to … police.
A ‘democratic’ deadlock?
Beginning of the week EU Commissioner for Environment Janez Potocnik visited Keratea and spoke with the residents. However he refrained from making a statement, twitting “It’s for Greece to decide where to locate any landfills, not EU. But landfilling should be a last resort” and that “the landfill is an internal Greek matter”.

The landfill is to be created 2,5 km away from the Ovriokastro village, next to an arcaeologicalsite. Keratea is located 50 km south-west of Greek capital Athens.
