The engine of a Greek F-16 caught fire during the take off from the Souda airbase on Crete earlier on Wednesday. The fire was followed by a small explosion and some metal parts were detached. During the thriller that lasted a couple of minutes, the pilot managed to empty the fuel tanks of the air fighter in the sea and approach the air base again. The one-seater F-16 was still on fire when the pilot landed. Nobody was injured. There is an ivestigation underway as for the reasons of the fire outbreak.
