Three earthquakes in Evia cause landslides, damages in houses, road network

Three earthquakes measuring 4.8, 4.3 and 5.2 on the Richter scale and epicenter in northern Evia caused landslides, extensive damage to road network as well as damages to houses and businesses at noon on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The first tremor of 4.8 R recorded at 12:58, 6 km south of Mantoudi.

Two minutes later, at 13:00, a strong aftershock occurred with 4.3 R with epicenter 8 km west-south-west of Prokopi.

And again two minutes later, at 13:02, a second tremor hit with 5.2 R with its epicenter located 2 km east-southeast of Prokopi, near Mandoudi.

Due to the superficial focal depths two of the earthquakes were felt in the broader area including Greek capital Athens, 55 km away.

According to Mayor of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, Georgios Tsapourniotis, no injuries have been reported.

However, there has been “extensive damage to the road network due to landslides, as well as damage to residential properties in Prokopi and Dafnousa” the mayor told media.

According to latest reports from the area, material damages have been also recorded in houses, businesses, building and one church.

Civil Protection authorities are in contact with local authorities to coordinate the assessment and recording of the damage.

At the same time, the Fire Service announced that firefighting units have been mobilized and are conducting patrols across the affected area. Fire Service crews have also undertaken operations to remove rocks and debris from a roadway in the Derveni area of Evia.

Seismologists in the country remain on alert saying it is too early to say whether it was a main earthquake or not. At the same time, they stress that the area has several fault lines that have caused earthquakes of maximum 6 Richter in the past.

Some schools will remain closed in the area on Monday, June 8, 2026.
