Political council and parliamentary group of Democratic Left accepted with overwhelming majority the party leader proposal to withdraw two ministers, two deputy ministers from Samaras’ government and also several general secretaries.
“DemLeft requested its ministers to submit their resignation”, high-ranking party official Chatzisokratis told media short after 3:00 pm on Friday.
DemLeft leader Fotis Kouvelis issued a statement saying that he would support the government.
It is not clear, if he will support the government with his votes although he won’t participate in the government coalition with DemLeft officials.
At the same time, Samaras’ Nea Dimocratia and still coalition gov’t partner PASOK are working out the new coalition gov’t agreement and who is going to replace the resigned DemLeft ministers.
It is expected that the role of PASOK will be strengthened.
For the time being the scenario of early elections has been averted and Greece will be governed by the same old two parties:conservative Nea Dimocratia and socialist PASOK. Parties that support the loan agreement and the strict austerity measures.
PS Everything changes and everything remains the same *sigh*
What an absolute joke! What next? Cabinet reshuffle in 2 months time with the re-appointment of DIMAr ministers as part of the “re-shuffle”. Talk about sitting on the fence….
what is this?
according to what I read elsewhere, they are withdrawing ministers but keeping on supporting the government? What is the point, other than posturing. If I didn’t know better I would swear I’m in Ireland. This is sitting on the fence if I ever saw it.
the point is to avoid early elections 🙂
