Uninsured work in the Greek tourist sector tends to turn into a plague. Controls in Greek tourist resorts conducted by labor and insurance funds institutions showed that one in three workers in the tourist business work without social insurance.
Control checks were conducted in the month of June in 1,345 businesses across the country. Businesses that hire seasonal personnel like restaurants, bars, snack bars, night clubs, hotels, water-sport facilities and travel agencies.
The number of uninsured workers was found to be 1,680 people in a total of 4,818.
The controllers have imposed fines totaling 995,000 euro for violation of labor law, like not keeping books of newly hired personnel. Insurance funds are yet to impose the fines for the uninsured work.
So if we know of a company doing this, who do we report them to?
It means people are so desperate to get a job, they accept without insurance. And… if they tell you 3 euro an hour with IKA or 6 without IKA for many people the choice is easy to make. They need the money and since it seems that in winter tourist employees will not get unemployment money from OAED (if you have insurance with IKA) it’s better to make as much money as you can. Did nobody think of that when they lowered the salaries to monkey peanuts? Number of people working black will increase
