An employee at the Ambulance Service (EKAV) in Northern Greece had managed to stay away from work from December 1st 2006 until November 9th 2011. He didn’t not inform anyone for his leave, neither his supervisors nor his colleagues, and started to work at the cafeteria belonging to his sister. For a second salary. Because all these five years he was absent from his ambulance work, he continued to receive his full salary by the Greek state -allowances and benefits including I suppose -.
At the very end the case was discovered and was submitted to Disciplinary Board.
The Disciplinary Board of Public Administration imposed a penalty to him: deprivation of salary for 3 months!
Provocative? Oh dear! We are in Greece, folks, and civil servants can do what they want. If the Public Administration inspectors would dig deeper they will find thousands if not millions of case of civil servants working part time getting paid full salary. This is something like the well-hidden family secrets everybody knows about…
PS neither his supervisors during these 5 years had reported him. HA!
With workers’control such things wouldn’t happen.
ohohoh it’s the powerful syndicates here in very close cooperation with the politicians/government that let such things happen.
