Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a RED ALERT warning of dangerous weather phenomena for today, Thursday, as well as Friday and Saturday, July 23-25, 2026.
The bad weather front will start as of Thursday afternoon and will affect with storms, squalls and lightning several areas of the country.
The bad weather will prevail also on Friday and until the pre-dawn hours of Saturday in most areas of the country, with heavy rains and storms as its main characteristics.
Worst day is forecast to be Friday after 12 noon
The phenomena in many areas will be accompanied by locally strong winds (bourinia that is storms with strong wind gusts), a high frequency of lightning, while there is a possibility of hail fall locally.
It should be recalled that Greece is recovering from a heatwave since the start of the week with its peak to have been yesterday, Wednesday, July 22, where temperatures reached locally even 43.5 degrees Celsius in Central Greece.
However, on Thursday morning, the whole atmosphere is much better as temperature dropped by good 10 ° C.

1. In central Macedonia (N. Pieria, Imathia, Halkidiki and Thessaloniki) from the pre-lunch hours until late at night (orange warning).
2. In eastern Thessaly (N. Larissa and Magnesia) from the midday hours until late at night (orange warning), mainly in the sea – coastal areas (red warning).
3. In the Sporades and Evia (mainly in the central and northern parts) from the midday hours (red warning).
4. In eastern Central Greece, including Attica, in the afternoon hours until late at night (orange warning).
5. In the islands of the northeastern Aegean (Lemnos, Thassos, Samothrace) from late evening (orange warning).
Saturday, July 25
In the Sporades islands until the morning hours (red warning).
2. In Evia (mainly in the central and northern) until the pre-midday hours (red warning).
3. In the islands of the northeastern Aegean (Lemnos, Thassos, Samothrace) until the early morning hours (orange warning).
4. In Magnesia (mainly in the eastern sea – coastal areas) until the early hours (orange warning).
