Greece’s Civil Protection issued an emergency bulletin warning of Extreme Fire Risk – State of Alert (Risk Category 5) and Very High Fire Risk (Risk Category 4) for several regions in the country for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
It is the first Alert of this high category during summer 2026.
According to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection is predicted:
Extreme Fire Risk – State of Alert (risk category 5) for the following regions:
- Attica Region
- Central Greece Region: Viotia, Fthiotida
- Peloponnese Region: Argolida, Corinth
Very High Fire Risk (risk category 4) for the following areas:
- Peloponnese Region: Arcadia, Laconia
- Western Greece Region: Aitoloakarnania, Achaia
- Central Greece Region: Phocida, Evia
- Thessaly Region
- Central Macedonia Region: Kilkis, Thessaloniki
- South Aegean Region: Rhodes Region
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent state services involved in the service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to to immediately deal with any fire incidents.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire through negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machinery that causes sparks such as circular saws, welding devices, the use of outdoor barbecues, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also recalled that during the fire season (May-October), burning fields is prohibited.
In case of fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Department by calling 199 free of charge.
