Nine children and three women have been missing after a boat loaded with illegal migrants capsized 1.5 nautical mile off Farmakonisi islet of Dodecanese in the Eastern Aegean Sea. According to Greek media, a coast guard patrol boat spotted the migrant vessel that has stopped in the middle of the sea. when the coast guard neared the boat and tried to tow it, two migrants jumped into the sea.
The other passengers allegedly moved to one side with result that the boat capsized.
The coast guard managed to rescue 16 people, who are believed to be from Syria and Somalia.
A big search and rescue operation is underway for the 12 missing people, but so far without positive results.
