The National Distribution of Electricity in Greece (DEDHE) will proceed to power cuts in order to save consumption only in the four prefectures of the island of Crete. The power cuts will take place between 8 pm and 10 pm on Friday, July 4th 2014 and they will last less than one hour.
DEDHE consider power cuts as necessary in order to save electricity due to the 48-hour rolling strikes of GENOP-DEH, the union of workers at Greek Public power Company PPC/DEH.
Meanwhile an Athens court is hearing the case of PPC against the unionists’ strike. PCC has filed a law suit against the unionists, requesting from court to declare the strike as “illegal”. Should the court rule in favor of PPC, the government plans to issue “mobilization orders” and get the strikers back to work under the threats of fines, penalties and even imprisonment.
The decision is expected around 9 pm or 10 pm tonight.
