Forever gone are the times when Greece was praised for being the cradle of democracy. In year 2014, it is the suppression, the violence and the authoritarian state and institutions that are been praised and thus by an academic (?) who teaches young people. Vice-Dean of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Holder of the Chair of the Philosophy Department Yiannis Tsifopoulos spoke out the unbelievable:
“How to change mentality in times of the crisis? I’m afraid, we should fascistize, we who hold the authority. Otherwise I don’t see any way for the Greeks to change. If you don’t behave properly, you get a biff and you cower, as it is done in Germany, Canada, Australia and all serious states countries of the world. We cannot vote laws and do not implement them, ” Tsiforpoulos says characteristically during an interview with a local television channel .
The footage of the despicable statement was made public by students of the Aristotle University who condemned the statement as “praising authoritarian practices and intimidation.” among others and as expected triggered an outrage.
Video:
Because apparently the ‘good’ professor did not address those having the power and authority but the “foot folk”, in case of the university… the students who dare to oppose the increasing authoritarian practices in Greek universities. Practices like attempts to dissolve students’ associations, increasing security measures in universities that have been held hostages for years by the academics and the political parties, the family gangs and nepotism.
Teaching punches, kicks and biffs in Greek universities? Most likely Tzifopoulos learned nothing from the scripts of the great philosophers he was allegedly teaching not even from the ideas of Aristotle….
UPDATE: Yiannis Tzifopoulos was forced to resign and submitted his resignation summa cum disgrace at 2 pm.
