Water company protester cuts water supply to SYRIZA
Having launched a protest rally, the workers cut the water supply short before 11 am in a symbolic act to show how the future will be if the water company is privatized – and consequently the water price will skyrocket.
The privatization of the Water Company in Thessaloniki was high on the agenda of New Democracy/PASOK coalition government in 2014. An unofficial referendum held among the city’s residents had apparently prevented the government plans.
Privatization of water and electricity companies and other state-run enterprises are one of the prior actions dictated by the lenders in the context also of the 3. bailout.
