A 17-year-old girl has been charged for the murder of her newborn after she had given birth in an apartment in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, last week. The baby died of severe head injuries.
The newborn allegedly slipped off the young mother’s handa right after the labor and fell on the ground.
The case was revealed, as the girl suffered a severe post-labor bleeding and her parents took her to a local hospital.
The girl reportedly discovered her pregnancy short before the labor and decided to keep it secrete from her parents with whom she was living with.
Furthermore, she decided to give birth in family home.
Police was informed about the case, when it searched the apartment, it discovered the body of the newborn in a bag.
The underage mother is still hospitalized, the legal case is in the hands of the prosecutor’s office in Thessaloniki.
Last year, two young women in Athens were charged for the death of their newborns. In cooperation with her mother, a 19-year-old killed her newborn right after the birth and threw the body in the neighborhood’s garbage bin. In another case, a 22-year-old threw her newborn through the window of the family apartment and left it to die in the cold.
PS It looks as if there is a big gap when it comes to sex education, pregnancy, and social services for babies born outside marriage when it comes to young girls.
