Toddlers, aged 3.5 and 4.5, found dead in cesspool, Central Greece

Two toddlers, aged 3.5 and 4.5, were found dead in a water hole that it seems to have been either a cesspool or an irrigation channel. The tragedy took place in a Roma settlement in the town of Aliartos, Central Greece.

According to preliminary information, the children were drowned either in a cesspool or an irrigation channel.

It was reportedly an uncle of the children who found them.

The bodies were transferred to a hospital in Livadia. Any efforts by doctors to revive them were in vain. They could only confirm their death.

Citing local doctors, media report that the children had been in the water for at least an hour.

Police launched an investigation into the children’s death and pressed charges against the parents for negligence of a minor.

The children were cousins and were playing nearby before the tragedy occurred.

The bodies are to be transferred to Athens for autopsy.
