A government aircraft from Venezuela landed in Athens Airport on Saturday and took off after four hours, private Skai TV reported in an exclusive news story.
Venezuelan government aircraft with the YV2486 insignia reportedly took off from Caracas on February 24 and landed in Athens on March 2. The plane had not submitted a flight plan. The aircraft had taken of from Caracas airport with original destination the island Margarita in the Caribbean. On the day of its departure from Caracas it “landed in Portugal where the pilot warned it would come down because the fuel was over,” Skai reported.
The plane had allegedly also landed in Geneva airport, Switzerland, when other European airports denied permission.
It finally landed at 2 p.m. in Athens “Elefterios Venizelos” after having requested an one-hour permission for refueling but took off four hours later, at 6 o’ clock in the afternoon, Skai reported.
According to daily Eleftheros Typos, Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, was allegedly among the plane’s passengers. “he was carrying a small suitcase and he demanded that other passengers should leave the VIP lounge.” He met with someone in the VIP lounge, the daily notes.
The plane with Venezuelan government signs prompted a reaction by main opposition New Democracy that issued a statement asking what was the purpose of the flight to Athens.
What ND and Skai TV imply is that Maduro may have asked asylum in Greece where the government has opposed the US intervention and attempts to oust the Venezuela’s president.
The government did not deny the fact that the plane “coming from Asia landed in Eleftherios Venizelos in order to refuel.” However, government sources told state news agency amna that “Skai developed a conspiracy theory that was blindly adopted by New Democracy.”
Later on the day, the Greek Civil Aviation issued a statement confirming the Venezuelan flight that came to Greece from Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates and left Greece for Cape Verde in Senegal. The plane had an approved flight plan and the reason for the stop in Athens was refueling (technical landing). The embassy of Venezuela requested the VIP lounge for Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, the statement added.
Yes, also in the past we have heard of mystery planes on dark missions when someone is seeking refugee in another country.
Is Maduro trying a deal with Greece? Time will show.
