Thessaloniki Municipality fines 12-year-old for illegal parking!

A 12-year-old school boy was fined by the Municipality of Thessaloniki for illegal parking! The illegal parking took place in 2014, when the boy was 7 years old. No need to mention that the boy can neither drive nor has a driving license.

The notice was sent to the child that lives with his family in the town of Volos, some 250 km away.

His brothers who went to post office to receive the letter in the name of the minor could not believe their eyes and thought it was a farce.

They contacted the authorities in Thessaloniki who confirmed the fine, however, saying that it was a “mix up,” that “such things happen often,” and assured they they will write off the fine.

However, a few days later, the City Council officially confirmed the fine, demanding that the school boy pays 5 euro.

Having been confronted with outrage and lots of ironic comments, the City Council issued a statement saying that the fine to the 12-year-old is “legal.”

How comes?

It was the meanwhile deceased father of the family who had illegally parked in Thessaloniki in 2014. But the boy ‘inherited” his father’s debt.

“Following a recommendation to the Municipal Council in April 2018, given that the debtor passed away, the remission of the deceased’s debts was approved as well as their their reaffirmation to his heirs,” the statement said.

It added that one of the heirs is the 12-year-old boy.

  1. How ridiculous! Maybe Tsipras should declare the official “death” of Greece with Germany as the heir. Then pass all debts on to Merkel & Co.
