“Medea and other friends”: A show takes tourists to 5th century BC in ancient Athens

A daily show in English next to the Acropolis Museum offers tourists a unique experience: to be transported to 5th century BC in ancient Athens and have the opportunity to talk with “Medea and other friends” from the ancient Greek world.

“During his visit to the Acropolis, an unsuspecting tourist slips and gets knocked out. When he awakens, he finds himself transported to 5th century B.C, Athens. There, he will have a talk with Medea on raising children, chase the god of Wealth himself around the Parthenon and find out how Odysseus solved a Cyclopean problem.”

Two renowned Greek directors, Michael Kalambokis and Alexandra Voutzouraki, have staged a unique show that allows the spectators of every nationality to meet the deep, omnipotent and timeless messages of the ancient Greek civilization in the most entertaining way.

In 60 minutes, without the need of any prior knowledge, the average viewer will become a participant in some of the most important works of the world repertoire.

Everything done with redeeming laughter as their guide, the surest way for anyone to deal with the twists of fate.

The show guides tourists through betrayal, greed, lust, women with beards and men in drag.

The theater ensemble has compiled essential excerpts from Ancient Greek theater, performed in English.

“For a complete experience of Greece, attending a performance of ancient Greek theatre is a MUST! We have assembled a team of classically trained actors, under the artistic direction of a renowned Greek director. KOILON will immerse you in a compilation of essential excerpts from the work of Homer, Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Sappho,” the organizers stress on their website.

The show starts daily at 3:00 p.m. from May 2 to 15 June, 2019 and at 6:00 p.m from June 16 to October 30, 2019. It lasts 60 minutes and it is all in English.
