Roadworks in one of the main avenues linking the south suburbs to the center of Athens created huge jams on Tuesday morning. Syggrou Avenue was turned into a huge parking as thousands of commuters headed to work either by buses or on private vehicles.
The roadworks conducted on the Avenue leading to Athens between the Kallirois intersection up to Frantzis Street had closed two lanes to traffic.
According to an announcement by the Regional Authority of Attica, the roadworks aim at repairing damages on the asphalt and are expected to last 15 days, so around June 18 2019..
In the context of traffic regulations, there will be a temporary stoppage of vehicle traffic on the two right lanes of Syggrou, from the height of Kallirroe Street to the height of Franztis Street, the Attica Region said in a statement. The Authority warns motorists to drive carefully and follow the traffic regulations.
The new trouble for Athenians comes just days after huge traffic jams on Poseidonos Avenue on Saturday morning and evening.
