Greece Weather: Up to 42°C, Thunderstorms, Hail, powerful Winds

The Greek National Meteorological Service EMY issued a weather report warning of extreme weather phenomena with heat wave temperatures up to 42°C, powerful winds, strong rain- and even hail falls. At the same time, the high temperatures and the strong winds increase the risk for forest fires to “very high.”

According to EMY, temperatures will reach up to 40° – 42° Celsius on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.

While Central and South Greece will “boil” with up to 42°C, a significant temperature drop of 3° to 4° is forecast in the North.

On Thursday, July 11, temperature will significantly decrease in the most regions of Greece. Maximum temperatures will reach up to 30° C in the North, 32° C- 33° C in the South.

Temperature will drop in the Cyclades, the Dodecanse and Crete on Friday, July 12.

Wind, Thunderstorms, Hail

Strong thunderstorms with very strong northern winds (bourini) in Macedonia, Thrace and the northern parts of the Aegean Sea in the early evening hours of Wednesday, July 10, and during the night to Thursday. According to, there is possibility of strong hail-falls.

“Very High Risk” of Forest Fires

Greece’s Civil Protection and Fire Service warn of “very high risk” of forest fires on Wednesday.

Regions affected:

Corinth, Attica, Fthiotida, Viotia, Evia, Larissa, Magnisia, Sporades islands and Halkidiki.

Blue = Medium Risk, Yellow = High Risk, Orange – Very high Risk.
