Abstention record in repeated elections in Exarchia: 93% stayed away

Voters in Exarchia turned their back to the ballot box on Sunday where repeated elections took place after the ballot box was stolen and set on fire short before the polling centers closed on July 7.

Just 39 out of 540 registered voters at the polling center in Koletis street found the way to the ballot box, while the rest …rested at homes, cafes, taverns or at the nearest beaches.

Participation was at just 7.2%, while abstention hit a record with 93%.

According to data released by the Interior Ministry, 39 people voted, with 38 valid and 1 invalid.

The results of the one polling station do not change the official results of the general elections a week ago.

Short before the polling center closed on Sunday, July 7, a group of people raided it and stole the ballot box thus setting it on fire a little later.

Yesterday, strong police forces were deployed at the polling center in Exarchia to prevent a similar action.
