Surprise development! The blind cat that was brutally kicked by school boys in a hotel swimming poll on the island of Folegandros has reportedly survived the severe abuse.
The animal has apparently passed out following the severe abuse and therefore it was considered to be dead.
The injured cat is to be transferred to the island of Santorini as there is no veterinarian on Folegandros.
According to animal welfare website zoosos.gr, the stray “cat did not move from the spot for several hours but she ultimately came to its senses despite the many kicks by the boys.
By order of the prosecutor of Naxos, the cat was caught and was expected to travel to Santorini by boat, zoosos reported on Friday evening.
The animal abuse took place last Tuesday. While there are no reports about the cat’s health condition, she managed to survive the abuse.
“The animal is blind and life on the streets would be a torture,” the website zoosos.gr notes indicating that the cat would need a forever home.
This seems to be an older picture of the abused cat.
Even if the animal survived, the charges against the boys and their parents as well as the administrative fine of 30,000 euros remain as animal abuse is punishable in Greece.
Security cameras of the hotel captured the two elementary school boys, no older than 12, chasing and throwing stones at the cat that in an effort to escape fell into the empty swimming pool.
Video footage showed how one of the boys kept brutally kicking the animal, while the second one was filming the torture with his mobile phone.
The footage was handed out to authorities together with a lawsuit.

Equally outrageous with the cat abuse was also the statement by the father of the kicking boy. He found an unacceptable excuse for his son: “OK, he is a kid!”

The cat has been adopted, the vet on Santorini posted on her FB account.
This terrible act of wanton violence against an innocent helpless cat deserves the utmost punishment, these kid’s are little monsters, sadistic and a blight on society, there parents should be marched down the road and whipped for condoning this abhorrent behaviour and the kid’s should be sent to juvenile prison, parent’s to pay for their keep
Greece education and humanity needs to be taught in primary schools that all life is sacred and to have empathy for a creature who’s life is so very hard
Did this cat get a home? The little monsters and their parents should be made to pay the vets bills and a monthly payment for food and lodging for the rest of this poor cat’s life
