A heavy rainstorm poured down in Attica around 2 o’ clock Thursday noon, causing power outage in several areas of Athens and Piraeus.
Traffic lights stopped in the area around the Hilton hotel in downtown Athens causing endless traffic jams.
In less than an hour, the Firee Service received 12 calls to assist people trapped in elevators.
Power outages occurred also on the island of Kefalonia due to a rainstorm that hit the island early morning Thursday. “70% of the island is without electricity,” Skai TV reported.
The National Meteorological Service EMY issues a new warning especially for the whole Attica regions as well as the Saronic Gulf.

“Attention is due for the next two hours,” the EMY warned in a tweet.
On Wednesday, EMY issued a weather warning for Greece until the first days of November.
UPDATE: the power supply problems were restored during the day.
