An earthquake measuring 4.2 Richter occurred in the sea area off Hydra one of the Saronic islands at 08:15 on Friday night. The tremor was felt also in the 90-km away Greek capital Athens.
The earthquake epicenter was 39 km South-East of Hydra.
According to preliminary reports, its focal depth just 2 km, that’s why it was also felt in Athens, especially in the south suburbs.

Different seismological institutes give different magnitudes, but they all agree that the tremor was between 4.1 and 4.2 R.
No injuries or material damages have been reported, so far.
Seismologist Efthimios Lekkas told media that there is no reason of concern
PS I felt the tremor just slightly and for a few seconds only. The PC screen moved left to right or the other way around…
We should be celebrating these numerous and regular small earthquakes. They release the stresses in the rocks beneath us and reduce the probability of a very large and destructive earthquake in the future.
