In a mafia-style attack in South Athens, two men were killed and a woman was injured. The attack took place early Sunday evening in a popular family tavern in the area called Ta Vlachika” in Vari.
The victims were sitting at a table together with another adult and three children. The two assassins reportedly approached the table and fired the deadly shots in front of the eyes of shocked families and tavern personnel.
The wife of one of the victims was injured. One of the men died on the spot, the other on the way to hospital.
The incident lasted no more than 30 seconds. The assassins fled with a private car the police arrived.
The victims are one Montegro national and one Montenegro-born Serbian. The nationality of the woman, who was injured in her leg, is not known.
At the time of the attack, seven other families were enjoying their early dinner.
Police investigates the cold-blood crime thus evaluating footage from the tavern security cameras.
The mafia-style attack has features of execution and a “death contract” reportedly carried out in the war between Montenegro gangs gangs’ war.According to Serbian media, the victims are Igor Dedovic, 44,, and Stefan Stamatovic, 47. Both victims were members of the “Skaliari” gang that was dealing with drugs, with Dedovic being the leader.
Montenegro had issued an Interpol warrant against Dedovic in 2016. The man was known as the “Balkan Escobar.”
“The Skaliari” are in war with another local gang the “Kavatski.”
The war between the two gangs that started five years ago has claimed the lives of at least 40 people. In most murder cases, the modus operandi is the same as in Vari: the victims are killed in front of their families.
