Democracy, Philosophy, Technology, Harmony, Energy: Greek words that dominate most languages in the world. With these five words a challenge started on internet on the occasion of the Greek Language International Day on February 9.
The Greek Language Challenge calls on non-Greek speakers to pronounce these words, create a video and then uploaded on Facebook.
Initiator of the challenge is Julia Zarikova, president of the Department of Greek Literature and Translation at the state University of Mariupol in Ukraine.
“Four months ago I was inspired by this action and together with the World Pontic Youth Coordination Committee and the Department of Greek Literature and Translation of Mariupol we decided to carry out the action Do you speak Greek? It doesn’t matter, if it is just a few words or some phrases, ” Zarikova told Greek news agency amna.
“We invited young people who do not speak Greek to create a video featuring these five Greek words: democracy, philosophy, technology, harmony and energy ”and then upload the video to Facebook with“ hashtag # Greek_language_challenge ”and“ #It_is_cool_to_speak_Greek ”, says Ms. Zarikova.
The action began on Monday, February 3 and will end on February 15. So far, videos by young men and women, even by children in Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Georgia have been uploaded.
