Elderly woman, possibly infected with coronavirus, found dead in her home

An 81-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Glyka Nera village in East Attica on Tuesday. She was possibly infected with the coronavirus. Together with the sister, she had visited the Holy Land (Israel) and returned end of February.

The sister who lives in Athens was tested positive to coronavirus on March 12 and remained in house isolation ever since. She briefed her sister about it and urged her to have a test, but the woman refused.

She had apparently fell ill, however, she did not seek any doctor’s help.

“Neighbors were bringing her food,” state broadcaster ERT TV reported.

For the last two days, the woman in Glyka Nera did not respond to her sister’s phone calls who ultimately informed the police on Tuesday morning.

Police officers rushed to the elderly’s home only to find her body.

Police had taken all precaution measures suspecting the 81-year-old had died of COVID-19.

The house was sealed and will be probably disinfected.

It is not clear whether there will be an autopsy due to contamination risk or a test.

Also on Tuesday, two patients infected with coronavirus died in Athens. They were hospitalized in the designated hospital Sotiria. The victims were a 86-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man who was intubated. He had reportedly no underlying serious health problem. The two deaths raise the death toll to 19.

PS These coronavirus era must be very scary and challenging times for elderly living alone who do not see “the enemy” and who can hardly deal with the restrictions and movement forms and all these new things the state demands from them.
