Hairdressers’ phone lines are on fire with Greeks eagerly waiting for the re-opening of the parlors next week. “We open on May 5 and we are fully booked for the first two weeks,” my hairdresser told me on Saturday. Hair cut and coloring are top on the clients’ requests, women and men are equally presented. “Almost half of the booking request come from men, a small percentage regards cuts for children,” the hairdresser said.
With government’s order, hairdressers’ were shut down practically over night on a Saturday, March 14, leaving Greeks wondering about the present and worrying about the future of their looks, amid the coronavirus lockdown. Then a good psychology is everything when conditions are extreme.

Six weeks later, women have to deal with discolored and grey roots, frayed hair tips, and two- or even three-colored hair. Men have one single problem: much too long, unkempt hair.
Few are the women who dyed their hair at home and even fewer the men who allowed a wife, a mother or a friend to trim their precious crown.
The picture of Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias went viral two days ago, when he appeared at a meeting with top health experts with a hairstyle directly coming from the 1970’s.

Everybody want to be served first, but this is not possible. Safety measures of a 2-meter distance between the clients has to be kept, that thus depending on the size of the hair saloon. “We cannot serve more than two maximum three clients a time,” my hairdresser said adding that he decided to allow two at once in order to “protect ourselves and the clients.”
Gloves and masks are a must, anyway.
In a survey earlier this month, a visit to the hairdresser top the Greek’s priority once the lockdown is lifted.
A specific date for the gradual lifting of the restriction measures has not been announced yet, although government officials speak of May 4. The Prime Minister will reportedly decide over the weekend after consulting with the top health and other experts.
The Prime Minister is expected to address the nation on upcoming Monday or Tuesday (April 27-28) and present a thorough plan of the lifting that will last until end of June.
