Employees at a beach bar in Pieria, western Macedonia, were stunned to see a ship of the Greek Nay slowly sailing to the shore and mooring right in front of the beach.
Landing ship LESVOS L176 anchored right there, in front of the umbrellas and the sunbeds of the beach bar in Neos Panteleimonas, in Pieria Prefecture.
Speaking to daily Eleftheros Typos, the beach bar personnel said a military exercise was in progress in nearby Litohoro.
When they arrived at work on Wednesday morning, they said that they saw members of the Coast Guard monitoring the beach with the ship sailing near by.
Suddenly, the ship began sailing towards the beach. When it anchored, members of the coast guard and the crew had a 15-minute dialogue, did some measurement, and then the ship sailed away.
As it was very early in the morning, no bathers were around.
A day earlier, on Tuesday it was frigate that anchored in the same area and close to the beach for about ten minutes, beach bar owner Manos Tzovas told Open TV.
He attributed the weird mooring close to the shore to some Navy exercise that take place in frequent intervals.
“We know nothing more on the issue,” Tzovas said.
