Greek actor Renos Charalabidis made a breathtaking suggestion with aν utterly high symbolism. Ahead of the celebrations for the 200 years after the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire in 1821, he suggested that all Greeks grow a mustache – probably to look like the heroes of the great Greek epos or to just honor them.
“I suggest that for the celebration of 2021 all Greek grow a mustache,” he posted on his Facebook account.
Of course, with this “all Greeks,” he didn’t meant women too, did he?
It is not certain whether Charalambidis’ proposal was serious or just a joke.
Offended that he ignored them, thousands of Greek women and girls are now seeking sewing patterns for the traditional costumes they will wear next year…
… to look like the heroines of the 1821 Revolution.
PS If men start growing mustache now, I can have my costumes read on time, too.
