Greece ranks as one of the top three destinations in the Mediterranean Sea tourists would choose for their summer vacations in 2020, a survey conducted in June has shown. With 15.01 % Greece follows Spain with 22.05 and Italy 15.7.
Among the possible vacation locations in Greece, Halkidiki received the highest score with 18.35%, followed by Crete with 15.6%, Santorini with 13.76%, Corfua and Mykonos 11.93%, Rhodes 11.01%. The survey was conducted electronically by the tourism consultancy company Horwath HTL among 1,000 people aged 18-54 in 12 key market countries that send tourists to Greece. Respondents were from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Israel, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA, June 8-25, 2020.
Purpose of the survey was to identify the major concerns of travelers in a post-coronavirus world and how they might make plans for their upcoming vacations once the restrictions are lifted.
More than two-thirds of the respondents were “optimistic” about the future of travel and tourism. A sizable majority, 61 percent, of people surveyed said that they would like to travel for the holidays within less than four months.
63.91% of respondents said that taking a flight now is safe.
45% said that they would most likely choose to stay at a hotel during their vacations, 27.02% rooms to let or Airbnb, 27.88% accommodation by relatives or friends.
Significant for their decision to pick up a destination is the way the country’s government has dealt with the pandemic said 26.34%, “health protocols and safety” said 24.522% as well as “health infrastructures” in their destination.” said
The majority also said that they would be keeping abreast of new developments regarding the pandemic.
Speaking to state-run news agency amna, Country Director of Horwath HTL Greece Xenophon Petropoulos said that “the first twenty days of July will be probably the most important days for the Greek tourism season. Those who will choose to visit, will almost immediately start communicating their experience. Friends, relatives, co-workers will start asking if the destinations are trustworthy.”
Petropoulos stressed that this period will be crucial for Greece since it will ultimately determine how the rest of the summer will unfold. An overly demanding travel environment, including an array of health and safety protocols — and closed borders — are some of the concerning aspects that the industry will face in the summer of 2020.
Is that “sightseeing” including Suffering of millions of strays…? I wouldn’t spend a cent to come see all those poor ones, but that is not of course mentioned….. Greece is something else that it wants to look like.
