A train of the urban train ISAP crashed at the platform of the terminal station in Kifissia, northern Athens, short after 12 o’ clock noon on Tuesday. Ten passengers have been injured, eight of them have been transferred to hospitals.
According to preliminary media reports, the train crashed at the terminal wall, while it was entering the station and it had not slowed down.
Fire Service and police rushed to the train stations, within minutes also the first ambulance arrived.
While authorities investigate the reason for the crash, some media like cnn.gr report that the train did not slow down while it was entering the station and crashed into the wall.
Other media report that the breaks did not stop the train due to slipperiness.
The accident occurred at 12:30 at noon.
The passengers are reportedly slightly injured. They are either elderly or passengers who were standing during the crash. Eight of them have been transferred to two Athens hospitals, media report. According to Skai TV, they have been mostly injured on the waist and neck.
The train station of Kifissia remains closed.
