Coronavirus Greece: Deaths rise to 201, infections to 4100 after 33 new cases

One more death and 33 new confirmed coronavirus cases, among them 15 detected among tourists were announced on Thursday evening. According to the official statement, total infections in Greece stand at 4,100 and the death toll at 201.

The growth form Wednesday to Thursday is 0.8%.

The majority of the new infections are among tourists and in Attica.

Six people died in the last 48 hours. The latest victim is a 78-year-old Greece-American tourist on summer vacations to the island of Rhodes. The woman who was travelling with a friend developed symptoms and was transferred to the hospital in Heraklio, Crete, where she passed away late on Wednesday. The deceased had underlying health problems.

The new 33 cases have been detected:

10  at the entry points in Greece.

5 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.

The remaining new cases are:

11 in Attica and 4 in Thessaloniki

Each one (1) is in Xanthi, Achaia and MAgnisia.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Thursday, 54.5% of the total of infections affect men.

Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,144 (27.8%)  are related to travel abroad, 2,072 (50.4%) are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

8 patients are intubated in ICUs, among them is one woman. The average age of the intubated patients is 58 years old.  75% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

125 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths has reached 201.

Among the deceased were 66 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

96% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Tests

According to the Health Ministry on Wednesday, a total of 430,864 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 6,254 (1.5%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.

46,893 (11.4%) tests have been conducted among flight passengers since June 12, the EODY statement said on Sunday, adding that 93 (0.2%) are positive.

This latest section of information has been removed from the daily report since Monday.

Head  of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announced earlier on Tuesday the number of tests conducted at the Greek entry points and the number of “imported” cases for the time period July 1-19, 2020.
