President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that announced that Turkey has restarted a search for energy in the eastern Mediterranean, accusing neighboring Greece of failing to keep its promises.
“We have resumed the drilling activity. We have sent (vessel) Barbaros Hayrettin to the area,” Erdogan told reporters after Friday prayers at Istanbul’s landmark Hagia Sophia that he converted into a mosque.
The Barbaros is supposed to drill inside the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.
Last month, Turkey said it had agreed to suspend “for a while” a search for oil and gas off a Greek island depending on the outcome of negotiations with Greece and EU heavyweight Germany.
Following the signing of the Exclusive Economic Zone Agreement between Greece and Egypt on Thursday, Erdogan kicked the milk bucket fuming and first of all announced to freeze the Confidence Building Measures talks with Greece that were scheduled on August 24.
The Foreign Ministry in Ankara issued angry statements claiming the EZZ agreement was null and void.
PS we are waiting for Germany to find creative solutions for the problem…
