A 59-year-old patient at Attikon Hospital, in Chaidari, western Athens, stabbed a nurse on Monday morning and then committed suicide umping from the 4th floor of the building.
The patient of Albanian nationality reportedly had lurked for the nurse behind the ward door and attacked her with a knife. He had previously called for her and had removed all intravenous fluids.
When the nurse entered the room, he attacked her from behind, threw her to the floor and stabbed the 32-year-old woman in the neck and the face.
He then climbed quickly the outdoors stairway from the first to the fourth floor from where he jumped to the ground. He was killed at the spot.
The attack took p[lace around 5:30 in the morning.
According to a hospital announcement, the woman has been seriously injured but her life was not in danger.
The man had reportedly undergone chest surgery last week and was supposed to be discharged from the hospital in the coming days.
The motive of the attack is under investigation as well as the origin of the knife in the attacker’s hands.

Hospital sources told media that the patient had not shown any signs of aggressive behavior.
