Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY updated its Red Alert weather warning on Friday noon, as Medicane Ianos appears to have slightly change its course. The Warning is from Friday, 18. September, until Sunday, 20. September 2020.
EMY warns of heavy rains and thunderstorms, accompanied by powerful winds of an average 7-8 Beaufort, locally 8-9 and up to 10.
The extreme weather phenomena are forecast to affect the Ionian islands, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Attica and Evia. part of the Cyclades and of Crete.

Friday, Sept 18
Heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms, powerful winds: areas affected are Ionian islands – from Lefkada and further south -, the Peloponnese, Central Greece – mainly central -, and Evia.
Attica: rainfalls and storms will intensify at night; they will be maintained with high intensity and some intervals until Saturday noon.
Evia strong weather phenomena during the night to Saturday.
Saturday, Sept 19
South Ionian Sea, Peloponnese and eastern Sterea.
Similar phenomena are forecast in western Cyclades and western Crete.
The phenomena will weaken, from the afternoon in the southern Ionian Sea and
eastern Sterea and by night in the northern Peloponnese.
Sunday, Sept 20
The strong weather phenomena will affect: until early in the morning Southern Peloponnese and until the afternoon the island of Crete.
