A boat carrying migrants and refugees has come in distress off western Peloponnese as Medicane Ianos strikes the area, making the Search and Rescue operation impossible.
There are reportedly some 50-55 people on board. One of the passengers has called the emergency international number <112>.
Coast guard boats set for the area but extremely bad weather conditions and waves with a height of over three meters made the rescue impossible.
The migrants boat was in the sea region North-West of Kyparissia in the Ionian sea, 11 nautical miles from Kaiafa.
Commercial vessels sailing nearby were reportedly heading to the area where winds are currently blowing with 8-9 Beaufort.
Medicane Ianos is not forecast to move away form the area in the next hours.
