Greece’s new coronavirus record: 453 new cases; 6 more deaths

Daily confirmed coronavirus cases exploded with 453 new cases recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours. Six more patients infected with Covid-19 lost their lives. Health authorities  announced on Monday that of the 453 new cases, 184 are in Kara Tepe refugees structure on the island of Lesvos and that 25 cases were detected at the country’s entry points.

Total infections reached 15,595 from 15,142 on Sunday and death toll increased to 344 from 339 a day earlier.

27 of the new cases have been detected among tourists

Late Monday evening two more Covid-19 patients died, raising the number of deaths to 346. One was an elderly woman and a 25-year-old man from Bangladesh, both hospitalized n Evangelismos hospital. The young man reportedly had underlying health problem, leukemia.

For one more day the majority of the domestic cases have been recorded in Attica, ie 174, In addition, 184 cases have been detected among refugees of Kara Tepe on Lesvos; they are part of a total 243 cases.

Of the 4049 active infections, 2100 are in Attica.

Stricter additional measures to contain the spread for Attica, go in force as of Monday, Sept 21 and for 14 days.

According to the official daily bulletin on Sunday,  2618(16.8%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 6592(42.4%) are related to already known infection case.

55.8% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs rose to 79 from 78 on Sunday. Their average age is 68, among them are 24 women. 87.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

181 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Six more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 344.  Of the deceased 128 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.8% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 312 from 252 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,210,118.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 7,900. Depending on whether EODY has added the tests on Kara Tepe the positive rate is between 3.7% and 5.7%.

Daily growth at +3%.

Of the 453 new coronavirus cases, 195 are related to known clusters (184 from Kara Tepe) and 25 were detected at the country’s entry points.

Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica and Lesvos.

25 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 2 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

The remaining cases are:

174 in Attica (4 linked to known clusters)

184 Lesvos (all Kara Tepe refugees)

5 Thessaloniki

18 Trikala

19 under investigation

7 Larissa (4 linked to cluster)

5 Arkadia

2 in Corinth

Each 1 in Fthiotida, Zakynthos, Argolida, Ioannina, Karditsa, Kozani, Ilia, Serres, Fokida, Sporades, Rethymno, Pella

STAR TV reported that there were 5 cases on the island of Aegina, after a couple returned from vacations on Paros and transmitted the virus to 3 relatives.

More and more school classes in education units across the country have shut down due to coronavirus cases.
