Greece records 411 new coronavirus cases, 272 of them in Athens/Attica

Greece recorded 411 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, even though again there were fewer tests. Attica and Athens registered a new record with 272 new cases. The total cases have reached 18,886 and death toll increased to 393 after two more Covid-19 patients died.

33 of the new cases were detected among tourists.

According to coronavirus progress report Sept 17-23, facto Rt is 1 in Greece and >1 in Attica.

A total of 121 Covid-19 patients lost died in the month of September, that is an average of 4 people per day. Note that from the outbreak in late February until July 23, the number of coronavirus-related deaths was 200.

During the weekly live briefing on Tuesday, head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said that there are currently 5,379 active Covid-19 cases.

The Civil Protection imposed a series of restrictions to the island of Kythnos, due to the epidemiological data.

On Wednesday the Civil Protection decided the “strong recommendation” to residents of several settlements in the Municipality of Thiva, Viotia, and of Halkida, Evia. Residents should avoid necessary movement, stay at home, wear mask in- and outdoors. Student should not go to school and workers should not move to other areas.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 2961(15.7%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 7755(41.1%) are related to already known infection case.

Almost half of the cases have unknown origin.

56.1% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs deceased to 89 from 78 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them are 28 women. 86.5% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

214 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Two more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 393.  Of the deceased 144 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.7% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 324 from 321 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,318,336.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 10,787 with 3.81% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +2.2%.

Of the 411 new coronavirus cases, 68 are related to known clusters and 26 were detected at the country’s entry points.

Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica

26 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 7 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

The number of confirmed cases in the nursing home in Athens have increased to 42. Over 36 elderly have been transferred to coronavirus designed hospitals in the Greek capital.

A funeral in Mouriki village by Thiva alerted health authorities after the deceased’s sister attending although she had Covid-19. She and her husband, also positive, are hospitalize din Athens. Contaminated has been also a cousin of the couple. Health units have caqrried out dozens of COVID-19 tests. Rules against the pandemic allow up to 50 people in such events, but eye witnesses said that it was 200-250 mourners at the funeral.

One surgeon, two doctors and two nurses in the chest-surgery clinic of designated hospital Sotiria in Athens hav ebeen tested positive. A total of 33 hospital personnel were sent to in self-isolation.
