Greece temporarily bans flights to Thessaloniki, notams for other airports

Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued several air notifications (notam) that include the temporary suspension of flights to/from “Macedonia” airport in Thessaloniki, while they lift restrictions to other Greek airports. Thessaloniki and Serres are in full lockdown from 3. November 2020 and for 14 days.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) temporarily bans international and domestic passenger flights to and from Thessaloniki airport “Macedonia”.

The aviation directive is part of the prevention measures against Covid-19 disease and will be valid from Tuesday 3 November at 18:00 in the afternoon until midnight on Tuesday 17 November 2020.

The aviation directive for Thessaloniki airport “Macedonia” stipulates that all international and domestic passenger flights (arrivals and departures) are temporarily suspended until November 17, 2020, except for the essential flights (Essential travel) which include travel for health reasons, for business / business purposes, for objective family reasons and for people in need of international protection.

Excepted from the flight ban are the usual support, repatriation, state, military, cargo and other flights.

It is also announced the extension of flight restrictions until 17. November 2020 midnight in the two landing areas “Chortero” and “Emmanuel Pappas” in Serres.

Flight restrictions from November 3, 2020 for the regional airports of Ioannina “Vassilevs Pyrros”, Kastoria “Aristotelis” and Kozani “Filippos” are lifted from 3. November 2020.

Note that Aegean airlines has temporarily suspending domestic and international flights to and from Thessaloniki’s “Makedonia” airport, from November 3, 2020 until November 17, 2020, after the announcement of the emergency restrictions for the Thessaloniki region.

All passengers who have a ticket for this period will be informed of their options, either directly by the company with a personalized message or by their travel agent, reported state-run news agency amna.
