Greece broke another negative record in daily deaths and coronavirus infections on Wednesday. Health authorities announced 43 Covid-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours and 2,752 new cases. At the same time the number of intubated Covid patients increased to 297 from 263 a day later.
Total cases have reached 63,321 and death toll 908.
The spike in infections, deaths and intubations have forced the Greek government to toughen lockdown measures and will impose a night curfew across the country from 9 pm to 5 am as of November 13, 2020, with very few exemptions – check here..
Again, Thessaloniki tops the list of regions regarding daily infections with 777.
Hospitals in the country’s second biggest city are on the brink of collapse, number of available ICU beds decreases each and every day.
Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that 50 new ICU beds will strengthen the health care system in the city.
However, personnel must be recruited for these extra 50 beds, as also “frontline workers,” doctors and nurses, fall also victim to the COvid-19.
In the country’s biggest hospital in Athens, Evaggelismos, 26 personnel are reportedly infected, 73 in self-isolation.

According to the official daily bulletin on Wednesday, 4556 (7.2%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 17036 (26.9%) are related to already known infection case.
54.2% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 297 !!! from 263 day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 82 women. 82.8% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
347 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Fourth-three more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 909. Of the deceased 369 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.7% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 2,003,274.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 25,714 with 10,7% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.
