Turkey ‘s authorities on Friday issued a navigation warning (NAVTEX) for firing exercises in the eastern Mediterranean, in an area between the Greek islands of Rhodes and Kastellorizo.
Turkey announced that the live-fire navy exercises will take place on Dec. 9-10, just ahead of the European Council where possible sanctions against Ankara could be imposed.
Ankara issued the NAVTEX just hours after European Council President Charles Michel slammed Turkey for its actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, saying that its game of “cat-and-mouse” must end.
Michel also warned that at the EUCO Summit EU “members will weigh sanctions against Turkey.”
