Athenians woke up on Thursday morning to witness a spectacular view: An orange-red sky. It was short after 7:15 a.m. when the sky turned …surreal and very dramatic.
The phenomenon was due to strong south wind bringing billions of Sahara dust particles to the Greek capital. At the same time, heavy clouds were covering the sky as a thunderstorm was about to start.
Dramatic skies over Athens this morning. My phone kept trying to colour correct this image of my balcony. No filters pic.twitter.com/P05V74MWZl

It lasted only a few minutes and the excited residents of Athens did not miss the opportunity to grab their mobile phones and capture these unique moments.
