Greece’s Civil Protections has issued a “strong recommendation” warning for the residents of four islands regional units in the Eastern Aegean Sea due to weather change with heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms and stormy winds.
The warning issued late on Thursday refers to the Regional Units of the islands: Ikaria, Samos, Lesvos and Chios

The Secretary General of Civil Protection, Vassilis Papageorgiou, strongly recommends that residents of the Regional Units of Ikaria, Samos, Lesvos and Chios be especially careful and to follow specific instructions, due to the new change that the weather with main features heavy rains and storms, as well as very strong winds. The severe weather conditions are expected to last until the morning hours of Friday, December 11, 2020.
The Secretary General of Civil Protection strongly recommends to the residents of Ikaria, Samos, Lesvos and Chios to:
– avoid any unnecessary movement during severe weather conditions and secure doors and windows tightly, always keeping in mind in case of torrents forming to move to the highest points of the house.
– do not cross torrents, streams or flooded roads for any reason, on foot or by vehicle, if they find themselves in this position. For no reason.
– in any case, follow the relevant announcements in the media and follow the instructions of the Authorities.
