Greece coronavirus: 1410 new cases, 21 deaths, intubations at 293

Daily infections in Greece remain high with half of them in Athens and Attica yo lead also on Friday despite the hard lockdown. Health authorities announced 1,410 new coronavirus cases and 21 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country increased by 12 to 293.

Death toll has reached 6,077 and the total cases stand at 170,244.

More regions in hard lockdown

On Friday, health authorities imposed hard lockdown into two more regional units – Achaia and Evia  -and extended hard lockdown in several others, while they removed the tough regime in others. More details in a separate post.

Live Briefing

At the live briefing on Friday evening, health authorities justified the recent increase in Rapid Tests that have a relative high “false negative” result when the viral load is low saying that the goal is to detect 1. those in need of treatment and 2. those who spread the virus.

Authorities spoke of a “constant increase of the epidemiological load” stressing that the average weekly showed an increase of 11 infections per 100,000 population, when it was 8 infections last week.

The number of hospitalized Covid-patients has reached 1,900, and admission to 200 per day. The number of intubations increased by 67%.

Average rate of positivity in tests has increased by 2.8%.

Increased infection has been recorded among those aged 20-60.

Authorities warned of increase among family members; “we get infected from relatives and friends more often than from strangers.”

“If we add the asymptomatic the real active infected are over 10,000 people,” they underlined.

Occupied Covid-19 ICU capacity is currently 51% across the country and 83% in Attica.

According to the official daily bulletin 6086 (3.6%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 54695 (61.1%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

51.9% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 293 from 281 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them are 213(72.7%) men. 86.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

1,204 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 21 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 6077. Of the deceased 3574(58.8%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.6% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1178 from 928 last week.

Of the 1410 new coronavirus cases, 0 were detected at the country’s entry points.

0 of the new cases were detected at entry points, yet 1 traveler were already in the country.
