Two mega vaccination centers open in Athens & Thessaloniki on Feb 15

Two mega vaccination centers are scheduled on open their gates in Athens and Thessaloniki on Monday, February 15, 2021. The centers aim to ramp up the number of daily inoculations.

The vaccination center in Maroussi suburb of northern Athens is housed in the Helexpo exhibition hall. It will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the first phase. It will have 48 vaccination points.

Some 2,400 jabs will be able to be delivered per day in February, which will rise to 5,760 per day when all 96 vaccination points are in operation.

In the first phase, appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes.

 

The center has one doctor and 8 nurses as well as administrative personnel.

To meet needs for emergencies there is reportedly an ambulance with paramedics operating in two shifts

The second vaccination mega-center will start operating in Thessaloniki on Monday, inside the building that houses the International Fair of Thessaloniki (ΔΕΘ).

Its capacity in February is 1,000 vaccinations per day, and 6,480 per day when all inoculation points open.

Meanwhile, health authorities prepare alternative plans for inoculation appointments scheduled for the next days due to snow whether Medea. General population groups currently in vaccination program are over 80 years old and those 75-79.

According to media, municipalities may help with the transport of elderly to vaccination centers.
