Meteo Alarm updated as Medea moves to South-East Greece

Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY) updated its Red Meteo Alarm weather warning on Monday noon, February 15, 2021. So far, snow weather front Medea has paralyzed Greece and caused lasting power outages in several areas, including over 14 suburbs of north and east Athens.

The Meteo Alarm warns of heavy snowfalls in east and south Greece,  of frost and total frost in the mainland and stormy winds up to 10 Beaufort.

Snowfalls

Monday, Feb 15

Temporarily dense snowfalls in east Sterea, Evia, Crete (mountains). Until late Monday afternoon also in east Thrace and Sporades islands.

Tuesday, Feb 16

Dense snowfalls in east ?Sterea, Evia, islands of North and East Aegean Sea, mountainous and semimountianous areas of Cyclades islands and in areas of Crete with low altitude.

From Tuesday evening, weakening of the phenomena in East Sterea anad Evia.

Wednesday Feb 17

Snowfalls will be limited to Crete in the early morning hours. They will be dense and weaken after noon time.

Attica & Athens

Dense snowfalls from Monday afternoon (Feb 15) until Tuesday evneing (Feb 16.)

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, they will be limited to north and east and will gradually weaken as of Wed morning.

FROST – TOTAL FROST

Strong frost in northern Greece will occur also in the rest of mainland on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Frost will be total locally in areas of Macedonia (mainly in the West) and Thrace

WINDS

North-eastern winds 7-8 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea on Monday, will weaken in the evening.

The winds will blow with intensity 9-10 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. From morning hours of Wednesday they will be limited in the South-East and will gradually weaken.
