The Greek Justice Ministry has submitted a draft bill introducing equal custody of children in cases of divorce. The bill aims to put an end to fights over custody and to focus on the children, whose interests lie at the heart of the bill, the minister stressed.
The bill’s provisions include no discrimination between parents in terms of rights, alternative ways of resolving conflict out of court (e.g. mediation), and objective criteria in cases of bad exercise of parental care (e.g. not paying child support).
Furthermore, it provides special training programs at the National School of Judges for those judicial officials who handle cases of family differences.
The bill is expected to go into effect as of June 30, 2021.
